Inclusivity, to me, means more than simply feeling accepted – it's about feeling celebrated.

Inclusivity, to me, means more than simply feeling accepted - it’s about feeling celebrated. Our differences are a source of strength, and seeing staff and students from a wide range of backgrounds and life experiences is what makes our community something to be truly proud of.

Being inclusive in my interactions with staff and students can take many forms. For example, it might mean being transparent and respectful in conversations, actively bringing others into discussions, and inviting different perspectives and opinions. It also involves being open to giving and receiving constructive feedback and new ways of working, and ensuring that everyone feels they belong, are welcomed, and are supported.

As an Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Co-ordinator, I don’t believe inclusivity means that we must always agree. Rather, it means we can engage in respectful, meaningful conversations regardless of differing views. It’s about coming together to support the staff and students who choose to be here and making their experiences as fulfilling as possible.

I am always happy to be a point of contact for staff seeking support with any EDI-related topic. Even if you’re worried about saying the wrong thing or feel you don’t have all the answers, I believe that open conversations are the key to fostering a positive environment where everyone can thrive.
